There were unconfirmed reports flying in the air, up until recently regarding Microsoft releasing a new gaming console. In fact, many were hoping that Microsoft would announce its new console this time around at this year?s E3 gaming expo.
In fact, we also discussed the very rumours currently under discussion. We informed you how the folks over? at MCV saying that their sources had confirmed that the next xBox would be optical-less. Here?s the quick recap for you.
According to the folks over at the?MCV, ?Although the console will not include a disc drive, it will offer compatibility with some sort of interchangeable solid-state card storage, although it is not known whether this will be proprietary or a more standard format such as SD.?
There were also rumours that the new Xbox would be called the Xbox 720. Recently Microsoft decided to put all the rumours to rest in an interview to Bloomberg. Microsoft said that its gaming console, the Xbox 360 still has that kick to go that extra mile. Hey, we hear you Microsoft ? we too think that the Xbox 360 has still got it.
Microsoft told Bloomberg (as cited by the friendly folks at The Next Web) that ?2012 is all about the Xbox 360.? With that Microsoft basically told its Xbox fans that the new console that you were, ?oh so expecting?, still has time to come and meet the gaming world.
That being said, this still is not confirmed whether or not the new console (that will be released whenever it will be released) will come without an optical disk ? had Microsoft done that, it would have definitely revolutionized the whole idea of gaming and consoles.
Here is Microsoft?s statement that was cited at Kotaku:
?While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon. For us, 2012 is all about Xbox 360-and it?s the best year ever for Xbox 360. The console is coming off its biggest year ever-a year in which Xbox outsold all other consoles worldwide. Xbox 360 didn?t just outsell other consoles, it also outsold all other TV-connected devices like DVD players, as well as digital media receivers and home theatre systems. And in our seventh year, we sold more consoles than in any other year-defying convention.
This year, we will build on that Xbox 360 momentum. With ?Halo 4,? ?Forza Horizon,? ?Fable: The Journey,? and other great Kinect games on the way, our 2012 Xbox lineup is our strongest ever. This year, we will deliver more TV, music, and movie experiences for Xbox 360-as we?ll make it even easier to find and control your all entertainment. And this year, Xbox games, music, and video are coming to Windows 8 so people can enjoy their Xbox entertainment wherever they go.?
