Bulgarian NHIF to reimburse all cancer treatment drugs

2012-06-26

Dr Plamen Tsekov, the director of the Bulgarian National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), has announced that the Fund will reimburse all cancer treatment drugs, irrespective of the manner in which negotiations with the companies which sold them ended.
The NHIF recently launched a procedure for the renegotiation of the prices of over 160 medicines used in the treatment of cancer. However, the marketing authorisation holders (MAH) of 16 of these drugs failed to appear during the negotiations. The MAHs of a further 23 drugs refused to agree on the requested discounts. Nevertheless, according to Dr Tsekov the NHIF will still reimburse these products.
